With friends like these...
Someone else realizes the real central front for the war on terror is not Iraq:
To add insult to injury, our so-called War President has reportedly endorsed Pakistan's truce with the perpetrators of 9-11--and Bali, Madrid, London, etc. Just in case there is any lingering doubt about who Pakistan made a deal with, last week they announced the release of almost every Taliban and Al Qaeda suspect they held, including the ones accused of chopping off the head of American correspondent Daniel Pearl. This week, Pakistan's military dictator Pervez Musharraf is in the US -- no doubt hoping to smoothly take the neocons for suckers one more time -- even while our troops are injured and killed by Al Qaeda/Taliban operating out of the sanctuary of western Pakistan.
Anyone who truly cares about the future of America should consider sending George Bush's Republican enablers a crystal clear message this November: You're either with us, or you're with him.
Coming home to roost
I have written many times in the past how the roots of our conflict in the Middle East go back to past actions we took, actions that satisfied short-term goals at the cost of long-term peace. Here we have the president of Pakistan pointing out the problems this has caused:
In a speech to the European Parliament's foreign affairs committee on Tuesday, Pakistan's President General Pervez Musharraf blamed the United States and the West for "breeding terrorism in his country by bringing in thousands of mujahideen to fight the Soviet Union in Afghanistan and then leaving Pakistan alone a decade later to face the armed warriors," according to an article at Pakistan's Daily Times published on Wednesday.
Pakistan to Bin Laden: Live a free and peaceful life
Osama bin Laden, America's most wanted man, will not face capture in Pakistan if he agrees to lead a "peaceful life," Pakistani officials tell ABC News.
The surprising announcement comes as Pakistani army officials announced they were pulling their troops out of the North Waziristan region as part of a "peace deal" with the Taliban.
If he is in Pakistan, bin Laden "would not be taken into custody," Major General Shaukat Sultan Khan told ABC News in a telephone interview, "as long as one is being like a peaceful citizen."
The Bush Adminstration has been played by Pakistan for five years. This is a country that poses more danger than Iraq and Iran combined. Is it going to take a mushroom cloud for someone to wake up and realize that we are fighting the wrong enemy? What happened to the "you're either with us or against us" talk from Bush?
The latest scare from the real central front of the war on terror
Did you hear about the 24 Iraqis who plotted to blow up a bunch of airplanes flying across the Atlantic Ocean?
Oh, that’s right. They weren’t Iraqis. They were Pakistanis.
Did you hear that Osama bin Laden is hiding in Iraq?
Whoa, check that. That would be Pakistan.
And did you know that Iraq has nuclear bombs and sold that technology to Iran and North Korea?
Oops, I meant Pakistan, not Iraq.
And how about Iraq supporting Islamic terrorism against its democratic neighbors?
Oh, that would be Pakistan, again.
And now there is a new warning that al Qaeda may attack Americans in India. And where would these attackers be coming from?
Again, Pakistan.
And so the central front on the war on terror is Pakistan, right?
No, that would be Iraq.
Why do I get the feeling that Abbott and Costello are running this war?
