Online vs. Offline

I think the ability to link to source documents is one of the things that makes online journalism so much better. But there is an institutional inertia that comes into play here, with reporters and editors used to doing things the old print way, and not seeing how important this is. In my column from two weeks ago on oil drilling, I made sure to attach the two main documents I used for sources. I need to do this more often.

Although clearly 'right of center' those people over at the EagleCountyTimes.Com
seem to be the only ones doing any 'open records requests' to validate their point in their little online Eagle County newspaper. I've read 2 articles - one on the County's Human Society then next on Commissioner Peter Runyon being sued because of concerns with Runyon using taxpayer funded TV to 'enhance' his re-election campaign. Both articles had clickable links to the PDF's of their open records requests...

Y doesn't the Vail Daily, Vail Mountaineer and the left leaning realvail.com do more of that kind of journalism?

With open records laid out, the reader can make his or her own mind...

..just a thought to get us back to credible journalism...
